Remember all of the conversation surrounding if there would be a statue built in A’ja Wilson’s honor at the University of South Carolina.

That conversation is becoming closer and closer to reality.

The Campus Art Advisory Committee at the University of South Carolina approved for a statue to be built in Wilson’s honor.

We’re going to do it as soon as possible.

The only other athlete to be honored with a statue on South Carolina’s campus is former football player George Rogers, who won the 1980 Heisman Trophy.

Tanner told local media in South Carolina that an unveiling would likely occur prior to the 2020-2021 season. Wilson’s statue would likely be near the front entrance to Colonial Life Arena.

It would also likely come with a price tag of about $300,000. Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley agreed to put $100,000 towards the project with the remainder coming from other donors.
