The Atlanta Dream became the third WNBA franchise this offseason to tease a big announcement.
The Chicago Sky’s big reveal was a new logo. The Dallas Wings’ big reveal was its new head coach in Brian Agler.
The Dream’s news may have outdid the Sky’s and the Wings’ by revealing that the team will return to State Farm Arena – formerly Philips Arena – starting with the 2019 season.
It may not have been much of a surprise to most who have followed the arena situation involving the Dream. Atlanta last played at the venue in the 2016 season and had its 2017 and 2018 home games at McCamish Pavilion on Georgia Tech’s campus.
The arena was unavailable to the Dream for those two seasons because of a renovation project that took place at the former Philips.
It’s time to share the BIG. NEWS. 👀

The Dream’s return to State Farm Arena will be how the 2019 WNBA season kicks off as Atlanta hosts the Dallas Wings the night of May 24.
Given how the Dream came within one game of advancing to the WNBA Finals, if reigning Coach of the Year Nicki Collen has her full roster healthy through the entirety of the season, the Dream have a chance to return to their incumbent arena in special fashion.
