Becky Hammon included in Macy’s ad aimed at empowering women

The popular department store chain known for its Fourth of July fireworks and Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City has released its latest ad, aimed at women’s empowerment.

The spot features current San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon and a host of other women who kick tail and take names in their respective fields. The ad, called “Remarkable You” promotes its fall 2018 collection in addition to the empowerment of women.

A rendition of “Just a Girl” by No Doubt serves as the background music and features women going through their days in roles that defy gender norms – public defender, civil engineer, teacher, conductor, aerospace engineer. And, of course, NBA assistant coach.

The other women featured in the commercial – Tiffiny Blacknell, Patricia Valoy, Vanessa Beckman, Mishaal Ashemimry, and Joann Falletta.

Along with featuring Hammon, Macy’s also deserves props for ensuring women from a number of backgrounds were highlighted. Three of the six women in the new spot are women of color, meaning Macy’s ensured diversity was a central point of the campaign in addition to empowerment.
