Beyond The W Turns 1!!!!!!

(*cue Tony Toni Tone’s “Anniversary” as the background music*)

I’ve been sitting in front my laptop, looking at this blank white space for the past few hours in an attempt to figure out how to describe the impact that this platform has made on my life over the past 12 months. It isn’t necessarily that I have nothing to say, but I don’t have enough words to truly describe how much this platform, the WNBA, and all of you mean to me. So….I’ll just speak from the heart. Freestyle from the top of the dome.

When I posted my first set of stories on Dec. 18th, 2014, I hadn’t slept for a whole 24 hours. Excitement, anxiety, and fear were among the many emotions that I felt. Excited that I had finally found my passion, and the months of planning, site building, praying, and more finally came together just how I imagined. Anxious on how it would be received by both readers and industry professionals. And of course, the natural fear of failure. The end of 2014 involved a lot of changes in my personal life as well. I had already handed in my 3 weeks notice at a job I was at for almost 5 years, with no back up plan or new gig lined up. Change would be the theme for 2015, and I had NO idea what to expect.

I went into our first year with just a few expectations: cover a few events. Try to get credentialed at a  Liberty games. Keep up with news and write daily. However, the universe made it clear that they had other plans, including some of these proud moments:

  • interviewing every player I sought to interview
  • covering the Maya Moore Academy
  • covering the entire 2015 NY Liberty Season
  • covering the Jordan Brand Classic Inaugural Girls Game
  • covering the Phoenix Mercury championship celebration at the White House
  • interviewing Lisa Leslie Naismith Hoops Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
  • interviewing Sheryl Swoopes at the Nike Elite Women’s Basketball Collection Launch

Thank you to each and every one of our readers, followers, subscribers, and YouTube viewers for your love, support, and interest.

Thank you to every industry professional and media member who has offered advice , constructive criticism, and guidance as I navigate my way through this huge ocean called sports media. Thank you to the WNBA staff and team personnel for allowing us to be a piece to your puzzle of success over this past year.

Huge thank you to my growing team, and to every single person who has sacrificed their time to help with video shooting, photography, editing, and travel. Special shout out to my niece for being my first camera woman! Lol!

Lastly and most importantly, thank you to the beautiful and gifted players and legends of the WNBA for being so open, honest, available, and supportive of my vision and dream just as I am with yours. This platform is for YOU, and our main purpose will always be to help your light shine brighter.

CHEERS TO YEAR 2!!!
