A 13-person group of bicyclists finished a 1,098 mile trip from Tennessee to South Florida in honor of Pat Summitt and to promote the late, great Tennessee Lady Vols coach’s foundation in battling Alzheimer’s Disease.

The trip was completed this past Friday in Key Largo, Florida which was earlier than its estimated conclusion date because of inclement weather in the South Florida area. It was organized by former Tennessee women’s basketball player Michelle Brooke-Marciniak as well as Knoxville resident Josh Crisp who hope to make “Pedal for Pat” an annual event.

The 1,098 mile number was symbolic in representing Summitt’s win total as a coach. In addition, six WNBA teams announced support for the initiative on social media. Those teams were the Chicago Sky, Connecticut Sun, Dallas Wings, Indiana Fever, Phoenix Mercury, and Seattle Storm.

WNBA president Lisa Borders also tweeted the league itself would be making a $1,098 donation to the Pat Summitt Foundation.
