News broke earlier this morning that Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson were released early Thursday morning after being taken into police custody at their new home in Goodyear, AZ for suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct.

According to police reports, officers were called to the home late Wednesday afternoon after the Glory’s sister called police after a failed attempt by herself and others in home to break up a fight between the two that turned physical. No weapons were used or found, and both only sustained minor injuries with no need for hospitalization.

Agents for neither of the players could be reached for comment, but Phoenix Mercury GM and Executive Vice President Jim Pitman released a brief statement on the situation this morning:

“The Mercury organization is aware of an alleged incident involving Brittney Griner. We are in the process of gathering additional information, and will have no further comment at this time.”

We will keep a close eye on this as it continues to develop and share any new developments. With training camp and their wedding right around the corner, I truly hope this can be resolved and they can re-focus on the fantastic things ahead. Our prayers and well wishes are with the both of them!
