Immediately following her arrest last week after a physical altercation with her fiancée, Tulsa Shocks’ Glory Johnson, Mercury’s Brittney Griner voluntarily began domestic violence counseling in Goodyear, AZ.
Her attorney, David Michael Cantor, announced that Brittney made the decision to enter the domestic violence diversion program after accepting a plea deal, where the charges stemming from her arrest will be expunged upon successful completion of 26 weeks of counseling. Cantor also adds that Brittney is cooperating fully with the WNBA’s investigation into the altercation.
Brittney and Glory were both arrested last Wednesday after an argument at their new home took a physical turn, where both ladies suffered minor injuries. Both were charged with disorderly conduct and suspicion of assault, but later released. Since the incident, both parties have spoken out and apologized for their actions, with Brittney releasing this statement through Cantor:
“It is never OK for an argument to turn physical. This will never happen again, and I take my relationship and my responsibility as a role model seriously. I am committed to making positive changes and I plan to use what I have learned to set a good example and help make a difference in the world around me.”
The couple have also made it known that they are still on track to walk down the aisle next month.
