Now that the women’s basketball program at the University of Minnesota has a head coach in the Lynx’s Lindsay Whalen, it is time to put together a coaching staff.

Whalen did just that when it was announced on Monday that Carly Thibault-Dudonis and Kelly Roysland would be the first two assistants under Whalen.

Being a first-time head coach, I needed people that are familiar with this territory and know what it’s all about right off the bat.

Kelly has been a head coach and Carly has been a recruiting coordinator, so I felt like we needed people in here as soon as possible with those backgrounds to help get things going.

Roysland was a previous assistant to the Golden Gophers from 2010 until 2014 before becoming a coach at the Division III level. The name Thibault may ring a bell as Thibault-Dudonis is the daughter of Mike Thibault, head coach of the Washington Mystics.

The last two seasons, she was part of Mississippi State’s coaching staff as it advanced to consecutive national championship games.
