The story of former WNBA player Chamique Holdsclaw is one that is filled with ups and downs, personal triumphs as well as daunting tribulations–some of which are well-documented. One of those very points of her life that can be described as a tribulation occurred when she was diagnosed with depression and bipolar disorder.

Recently, she spoke with Excelle Sports about how this has been something that has been on her brain ever since she was younger. The story mentioned how at times she would keep certain things contained and didn’t consider the possibility of mental health issues.

At times she felt alone which is why she is now sharing her story with others who can learn from hers.

“It really means having those conversations with younger kids, getting pieces and programs in school systems and speaking about mental health and illness in a positive way.”
