The name Dearica Hamby is a familiar one to women’s basketball fans in the States as she plays in the WNBA.

It has also become a well-known name in international women’s basketball circles for more infamous reasons.

Last week, Hamby was said to have made a “violent gesture” against another player – Ivana Tikvic during a game between Ragusa and Torino. It initially earned Hamby a three month suspension from the Italian Basketball Federation.

That suspension, which was appealed by Hamby, has been won by Hamby and has been reduced to only four games.

Hamby, playing for Ragusa, was trailing by 18 points late in the contest when the incident occurred. Tikvic fell down and Hamby stood over her for several seconds after Tikvic fell to the floor. Hamby is said to have taken a swing at Tikvic’s head, but no contact was made.
