When Brian Agler departed from his position at Los Angeles Sparks head coach, speculation went abound as to who would succeed him in the City of Angels.

It turns out his successor is someone who is very familiar with the colors purple and gold.

We now know that Derek Fisher, who won multiple championships in his playing days with the Lakers and was recently head coach of the New York Knicks, will assume the vacant coaching spot in Los Angeles.

I’m excited to be the new head coach of the LA Sparks.

There is no finer organization in the WNBA and I can’t wait to work with our ownership group, front office, talented players and staff to cement a culture of sustained excellence, which is what LA basketball fans demand – and deserve.

A press conference has been announced for Friday at 12 p.m. pacific time at the Luxe City Center Hotel in Los Angeles.

Derek is a champion and proven leader on and off the court. With his wealth of experience as a former player and head coach, I can’t think of a better steward for our basketball team moving forward.
