Liz Cambage scoring a combined 88 points against the New York Liberty and Washington Mystics seems like centuries ago given what has transpired with the Wings since.
The Wings, barely ahead of the Las Vegas Aces for the eighth and final playoff spot this season, appear to be backing into the playoffs with mastery.
After Sunday’s Wings loss to the Mystics (93-80), the frustrations of Fred Williams and another Dallas executive boiled over.
Outside of the locker room, Williams reportedly got into an altercation with Wings CEO Greg Bibb. Said altercation included four-letter words being exchanged as well as both men having to be held back.
Taj McWilliams-Franklin has been named the interim head coach.
The season has not met our expectations. I have asked Taj to serve as our interim head coach and I have the upmost confidence that she and our staff will do everything possible to put us in the best position to win. I wish Fred the best moving forward. Our focus remains on qualifying for the playoffs and ultimately competing for a WNBA championship.
–Wings CEO Greg Bibb
As far as the reaction from Wings players was concerned, it was anything but critical of their now former head coach.
That sounds indicative of a locker room caught totally off guard with what happened. With one move, it appears the Wings could about to undergo its own period of transition.
