It does not matter if it is the New York Liberty, the Canadian national team or the UC Canberra Capitals – when you have Kia Nurse on your team, good things are bound to happen.

Nurse will soon shift her focus to representing her country in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and representing the Liberty in WNBA play, but she posted big numbers in Australia’s WNBL, resulting in her making history as the first import to claim the honor.

In the WNBL, Nurse has averaged 21.3 points per game as its leading scorer. In addition, she averaged 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists.

To be the first import to win the WNBL MVP shows the level of talent here in Australia and it was a big reason why I felt it was a great league for me to come to.

Kia brings so much to our league and has been in a class of her own this season, the 40th season anniversary of the WNBL. It’s been an absolute pleasure watching her make an impact for the UC Capitals and on the league the way she has.

The Capitals will face the Melbourne Boomers in the WNBL semi-finals. Prior to the game, Jackson will present Nurse with the Suzy Batkovic Medal, awarded to the league MVP.

Nurse earned 94 votes over the 88 that Brianna Turner (Adelaide Lightning) received and the 70 Cayla George (Boomers) got. Katie-Rae Ebzery (Perth Lynx) had 69 votes and Stephanie Talbot (Lightning) received 65.
