When you are a name as big as Kia Nurse’s is in Canada, anyone looking to fuse together sports and philanthropic initiatives will be looking to have you as the face of its campaign.

Enter Tangerine Bank (based in Toronto). It recently announced it was partnering with the current rising Phoenix Mercury star on a campaign to use the platform of youth sports to uplift communities. She will join Tangerine at events throughout the year.

Tangerine announced it would make a donation of $15,000 to Kia Nurse Elite, a youth basketball program Nurse founded in 2018.

The bank has worked previously with the NBA and the Toronto Raptors as well as with the YMCA and Lady Ballers.

It’s incredibly important for organizations to have conversations about how communities can come together through sport to not only learn life skills like teamwork and decision making, but also support diversity and inclusion to inspire change.
