The wheeling and dealing in the WNBA does not stop nowadays, does it?
One of the more active teams since the start of free agency has been the Los Angeles Sparks between the signings of Kristi Toliver and Seimone Augustus and the re-signing of Tierra Ruffin-Pratt to the trade of Kalani Brown to the Atlanta Dream to the waiving of Alexis Jones.
Interim general manager Eric Holoman has been one busy individual as the Sparks completed another trade – this time with another team that has had its fair share of headlines since Feb. 10 – the Dallas Wings.

This one sent Marina Mabrey to the Wings in exchange for a second round draft pick in 2021.
As was the case with dealing Brown to the Dream, this one would should net Mabrey much more playing time than if she stayed in Tinseltown. The Sparks are one of the most veteran-rich teams in the WNBA and Derek Fisher’s Los Angeles team only became more veteran-rich after the ink ran dry on Toliver’s and Augustus’ contracts.

Those veteran players, with the Sparks opting to reload as opposed to rebuild will once again see the lion’s share of playing time for Los Angeles in 2020. Meanwhile, the young Wings led by Rookie of the Year runner-up Arike Ogunbowale are continuing its rebuild and will have four first round selections in the upcoming WNBA draft.
Since Feb. 10, the Wings have traded for Katie Lou Samuelson and Astou Ndour in addition to making a litany of signings of players that were on its roster last season – including Megan Gustafson.

Speaking of Ogunbowale, it turns out she will be reunited with one of her former teammates at Notre Dame after all. She and Mabrey hooped under Muffet McGraw in South Bend.
