For a city that has experienced more than its fair share of sports success over the past year and a half, the competition for the hearts of sports aficionados in the DMV is fierce.

The Washington Mystics added to that competition earlier this year when they defeated the Connecticut Sun in five games to claim its first-ever WNBA championship. The NHL’s Capitals and MLB’s Nationals were also crowned champions of their respective leagues recently as well.

So, with Washington sports doing its best impression of the Boston sports scene, which team is the favorite of DC fans? The Washington Post did a survey of fans and it found that the Nationals led the pack with 26 percent of respondents. The Capitals and the NFL team each claimed 10 percent.

But the Mystics were tied with their Monumental Sports hoops compadres, the Wizards at eight percent.

As mentioned on BulletsForever.com, the Mystics being tied with the Wizards may have a lot to do with the Mystics being champions and the Wizards being…well, the Wizards. But as those of us in the WNBA ecosystem know, beggars cannot be choosers.
