North Carolina made Chasity Melvin. From Roseboro to North Carolina State to her current work with the Greensboro Swarm – the G-League Affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets – she is synonymous with basketball in the Tar Heel State.

In Roseboro, N.C. her contributions and work were recognized by the local town as the basketball courts located in its downtown park were revitalized and renamed “Chasity’s Court.” The dedication took place the morning of Saturday April 27.

According to The Sampson Independent, the plan calls for the addition of a fourth basketball goal, a marble monument honoring Melvin, and a concrete pad, shelter, and new bleachers courtside.

Lots of credit for the project was given to committee member Robby Caison, who was in charge of the fundraising campaign. It received plenty of contributions from a number of sources – including the Town of Roseboro, Campbell Oil Company, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and other donors that remained anonymous.

Melvin attended the big occasion with her family as well as friends, citizens, town officials, and others.

I am so appreciative to all donors and most recently, Waste Industries’ generous gift which allows us to complete Phase III of Chasity’s Court later this year. We are so pleased to honor Chasity Melvin and give our community improved basketball courts. I love seeing the teens and others playing basketball.
