Sheryl Swoopes is Elected into the Naismith HOF Class of 2016!

It’s so refreshing to see greatness in any sport get the respect and recognition that they deserve, especially in women’s basketball.

Yesterday morning, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced the 10 finalists who will be inducted into the prestigious hall of fame on September 9th, including WNBA living legend Sheryl Swoopes!

Sheryl wasted no time in creating a path for herself that many have yet to follow. She was a standout at Texas Tech, where she put on an unforgettable 47-point performance in the 1993 NCAA championship game. After being the first player drafted to the WNBA, she went on to win 4 WNBA championships, 3 MVP awards, and 3 Olympic gold medals.

Sheryl also made a lane for herself in the sneaker world, becoming the first female athlete to have her own shoe, the Air Swoopes. She is currently the women’s basketball coach at Loyola University in Chicago, IL.

Sheryl will join a class with some other notable players that many of us grew up watching: Yao Ming, Shaquille “Shaq” O’Neil, and Allen “A.I.” Iverson, as well as Michigan State head Coach Tom Izzo.

Congratulations to all of this year’s inductees, and we can’t wait to see you in Springfield, Massachusetts this fall!
