When Skylar Diggins-Smith announced that she was trading in her Nike deal to sign a new pact with PUMA, it was major news within the shoe industry as well among us casual and diehard sneakerheads.

She was on hand representing PUMA at the 2017 Footwear News Achievement Awards in New York City.

While on the red carpet, she spoke on encouraging women to succeed and what it takes to reach that success.

Do whatever speaks to your heart; stay true to yourself. Be competitive with yourself. And to me, you can take that into any aspect of life.

She was also asked about maintaining a healthy lifestyle through a nutritious diet. She said daily workouts, cooking, and vegetables are key ingredients to that healthy lifestyle. In addition, she spoke on her beauty regimen as well.

I try to keep my skin and stuff together because you know I sweat a lot.

The event in the Big Apple certainly brought the stars out – including Walt Clyde Frazier, models Hailey Baldwin and Maria Borges as well as musician and actress Justine Skye. Designer Virgil Abloh was awarded the prestigious Shoe of the Year honor for his work with the Air Jordan.
