If one South Carolina politician were to have his way, the greatness of A’ja Wilson will be forever immortalized right there on the State House in Columbia.

The State Newspaper is reporting that Leon Howard, a Democrat from Richland County (which includes the Palmetto State’s Capital City) has introduced a resolution which would indeed create an A’ja Wilson Monument Commission. The commission would be formed with the intent of building a statue of the former Gamecocks great and current Las Vegas Ace on the South Carolina State House on Gervais Street in Columbia.

Recognizing important South Carolinians shouldn’t be limited to the past. We should recognize greatness in the present.

While Howard’s effort is expected to come short, the newspaper is also reporting that there is an effort to have a statue of Wilson built outside of Colonial Life Arena – where the Gamecocks play.
The State has reported Dawn Staley has offered to put up $100,000 of her own money towards the project.
