Throughout NBA All-Star weekend in Chicago, there were basketball luminaries left and right – from the WNBA, from the NBA and even from the international ranks.

As is the case at the midpoint of every NBA season, its All-Star weekend is basically a basketball convention. Among those who represented the W in the Windy City was Tamera Young of the Las Vegas Aces.

Basketball fans on the surface know that she plays a key role in the Aces’ success, but what they may or may not know is that she is a businesswoman and someone who has interests outside of the game that will take her far after she eventually retires.

The Boss Network recently held its launch summit in Chicago for All-Star weekend. Two trailblazing women from the basketball realm were honored – Young as well as Cynthia Marshall, the first African-American woman CEO of the Dallas Mavericks.

Cameka Smith, the founder of The Boss Network hosted a panel discussion at Groupon’s Chicago headquarters.

Smith’s “Boss” stands for “Bringing Out Successful Sisters” and is an organization that encourages women to adopt the mindset of an entrepreneur.
