As Indianapolis is a big racing town, any event that takes place at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a big deal in the Hoosier State.

So, those that organize the IndyCar Grand Prix decided to invite a local WNBA legend to take part in the festivities.

Tamika Catchings, who as we all know is keeping herself very occupied since her retirement between her tea café, SEC Network work and foundation, was brought on as the honorary green flag waver to open the IndyCar Grand Prix.

In addition to her getting things started at IMS, add her name to the growing chorus of voices who are supporting Becky Hammon’s candidacy for an NBA head coaching job.

Hammon’s name has been in the news a lot after ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski broke news that the Milwaukee Bucks will be interviewing Hammon in relation to their head coaching job.

She’s a great coach. I wish people would stop looking at female vs. male and just look at who’s the best coach we could possibly have.

I think that not only in the NBA, but in the WNBA, a lot of coaches are recycled.

So you see them get on one team, they get fired; then they end up on another team. It’s hard to really allow other coaches to get into that realm. So I’m really excited about it.

Pau Gasol also notably wrote a piece in The Players’ Tribune also backing Hammon’s candidacy and was not having any argument that believes she cannot coach in the NBA because she is a woman.

Becky Hammon can coach NBA basketball. Period.
