Last Wednesday was National Girls and Women in Sports Day, and among those to participate in the proceedings was the Dallas Wings’ Aerial Powers.

She made an appearance at the West Dallas campus of Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas in hopes of inspiring girls as well as young women to pursue careers in sports.

The Dallas Sports Commission along with Powers also gave several of the girls in attendance an Aerial Powers Kenya doll.

Girls all over need role models, and me as a WNBA player, I would love to be one for them. So, If I can do anything to help them, even if it’s giving them advice, I would love to do that.

It’s funny because I looked up, obviously, to my parents, but I looked up to a couple of girls in the WNBA that are currently playing—Maya Moore and Candace Parker—but I always just admired their hard work ethic, and just their mentality on and off the floor.
