A scary situation unfolded after an initial tweet was put out indicating that Cappie Pondexter, who retired from the WNBA in 2019, had gone missing for several days.
Pondexter’s career spanned several teams – including the Chicago Sky, New York Liberty, Los Angeles Sparks and Phoenix Mercury – where she won two WNBA championships.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Los Angeles police arrested her on a battery charge, but did not give her name at the time of the incident.
Since she had gone missing, she and her family received an outpouring of support out of concern for her whereabouts.
So many conflicting reports at the moment. I just pray that Cappie is found soon and that she is safe.

Thank you. @cappa23— WNBPA (@TheWNBPA) October 8, 2020
The great Lyndsey D’Arcangelo reported that there was a missing person’s report filed in the LAPD system since Pondexter did not give her name at the time of the arrest. She was booked into custody as a “Jane Doe.”
I JUST got off the phone with LA Sheriff’s office. The missing person’s report HAS BEEN filed. It is in the system. https://t.co/AYyImAH1Ci

Okay, stay with me here: TMZ article has been updated. Cappie is still missing. Friend/assistant said that when she was arrested, she had no ID on her. She was released and is not in the best mental state. She hasn’t not been located.

Per Chuck Walton, Cappie’s rep — who I have been speaking with — after Cappie was arrested (with no ID) and released, she wandered off. And has not been located. That’s the last thing I was told as of 5 p.m. ET. https://t.co/NWRAmPBifQ

D’Arcangelo later spoke with Chuck Walton, her representative, who informed her she was found – this coming after she was released. Walton himself also posted his own statement on the ongoings to his social media accounts.
