The Atlanta Dream are kicking off the 2015 preseason in a big way with the Atlanta Dream Classic, set for May 23rd at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY!
Details of the event emerged last week in a press statement released by the franchise including details of two days worth of festivities prior to the classic. Events taking place will include a pre-game party at the Yum! Center, a coaches clinic, closed team scrimmages, and appearances around the community, all leading up the big game. Here’s the twist: the classic is actually a double-header, with the Fever vs. Sun at 5pm, and the Dream taking on the Mystics afterwards at 7pm. This will be extra special for Dream players Angel McCoughtry and Shoni Schimmel, who will be returning to Louisville community after playing for the Univ. of Louisville Cardinals, where the both of them are the top two scorers in UL women’s basketball history, and the school’s only top 10 WNBA draft picks. Dream President and GM Angela Taylor had this to say about the upcoming festivities:
“It’s an honor to announce our partnership with AEG Louisville on bringing the 2015 Atlanta Dream Classic at KFC Yum! Center to the city of Louisville…..We are also thrilled to give Angel and Shoni a chance to return to the school that they guided to national prominence, as they both speak very fondly of their time at the University of Louisville. We look forward to spending time in the community while sharing WNBA basketball with the Louisville community and fans in the surrounding areas as we start our quest to bring a WNBA Championship to Atlanta in 2015.”
And how are Angel and Shoni feeling about returning to Louisville?:
“I cannot wait to get back to my roots and return to Louisville,” said McCoughtry. “It has been six years since I played in Louisville, and it will be great to return. No one is more excited than I am.”
“I’m very excited for the chance to play another game at the KFC Yum! Center,” said Schimmel. “It’s going to feel awesome to walk back out on that court with Angel and my Dream teammates. I’m glad we’re able to bring this exciting event to Louisville.”
Tickets for the doubleheader go on sale this Friday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. ET, with a pre-sale on Thursday, Jan. 22.
This is going to be a good one y’all! I’m excited 🙂
