On the last day of 2020 – a victory in a year that did not give us many victories.
It is only an inevitability that Becky Hammon, currently an assistant under Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs will eventually land a head coaching opportunity. She has been a candidate for jobs in the past and even once coached the Spurs’ Summer League team to a championship.
Most did not expect her big break to occur in the fashion that it did, but Hammon still got her opportunity. Popovich was ejected from a game vs. the Los Angeles Lakers in the second quarter, meaning Hammon took over as the coach for that game.
Congrats, @BeckyHammon. You may be the first, but I know you certainly won’t be the last. https://t.co/dHXa9JFRWT

The Lakers still won the game with San Antonio, 121-107, but that was secondary to the real headline of Hammon (again) making more history.
