It goes without saying that newly retired San Antonio Stars point guard Becky Hammon is a woman who has made an impact. Now she can add an award for being just that to her laundry list achievements!
ESPNW named the Spurs assistant coach the 2014 Impact Woman of the Year. Throughout her 15-year tenure in the WNBA, Becky has raised the bar and re-defined what being an athlete and leader truly is, all while adding accolade after accolade to her resume. One of her biggest and groundbreaking moments this year came right after her retirement, when she became the 1st woman ever to serve as a full-time, paid assistant head coach in the NBA. And trust me….working under Coach Pop? We’ll most likely see an NBA title added to that resume in no time.
Wait a minute tho….Becky isn’t the only member of the WNBA familia to be featured in this year’s Impact 25 list:
- Laurel Richie- WNBA President
- Michele Roberts- NBPA Executive Director and Interim WNBPA Executive Director
- Magic Johnson- Co-Owner of the LA Sparks
- Britney Griner (Mercury)- reigning WNBA Champion and Defensive Player of the Year
- Maya Moore (Lynx)- reigning WNBA Regular Season MVP
Congrats to all the amazing men and women who made this year’s list, which you can catch here!
