There has been a huge Breanna Stewart-shaped hole that has been missing in the heart of women’s basketball since April’s EuroLeague title game when she injured herself and missed all of the 2019 WNBA season.
The injury became a major backstory to that season and re-ignited the debate on the risk WNBA players take when heading overseas to make more money than they do stateside in the W.
If all goes according to plan, we may see her back on the court sometime in the next couple of months.
Stewart attended the Wasserman Athlete Exchange Summit in Los Angeles last Wednesday and spoke of her plans. Her agent confirmed said plans to Matt Ellentuck at SB Nation.

This right here is why I’m on the @TheWNBPA Board of Advocates. These players deserve more from their league – and @breannastewart‘s candor here is really important. https://t.co/vpnVWt2Kit

It is fitting that Stewie is zeroing in on the Jan. 27 contest with UConn as when she plans to set kicks to court once again. She, of course, is an alum of the Huskies where she won national championships all four seasons she played under coach Geno Auriemma.
It’s COMEBACK SZN 😈 @breannastewart

Along with a return just around the corner, Stewart’s name is also appearing in the pages of Forbes Magazine.
Forbes released its annual ’30 Under 30’ list and among that list in the sports category is Stewie herself. Skylar Diggins-Smith also appeared on Forbes’ list for 2019.

The announcement of Stewart’s return to basketball is huge for the Seattle Storm, USA Basketball, the WNBA and women’s basketball as a whole.
It is huge for the Storm as it catapults Seattle back into legitimate contenders in 2020. It is huge for USA Basketball as the team looks to claim another gold medal at that year’s Olympics in Tokyo. It is huge for the WNBA as one of its marquee stars returns to action after a 2019 that was devoid of plenty of those signature figures – including Stewie and others.
The 30 Under 30 List for sports includes recognizable names such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Emmanuel Acho, Blake Griffin, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Keys, Francisco Keys, Salvador Perez, Dontari Poe, Mikaela Shiffrin, Justin Thomas and Lexi Thompson.
The 30 Under 30 music category also had its fair share of notables. 21 Savage, Kane Brown, Camila Cabello, Greta Van Fleet, Billie Eilish, Lauren Jauregui, Lil Pump, Post Malone, Rico Nasty and the late Juice WRLD were all included.
The 30 Under 30 movies category included Rachel Brosnahan, Jacob Lattimore, Dominique Fishback, Storm Reid and Kiki Layne among others.
For media, Kaitlan Collins (CNN), Caitlin Dickerson (New York Times) and Ashley Feinberg (Huffington Post) made the list as did New York’s very own Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the law and policy category.
