Eight new inductees were announced for the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. One of them is a familiar name for aficionados of The W.
Former North Carolina State and WNBA player Chasity Melvin was among the octet that received the honor. The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 5 at the Raleigh Convention Center.
Melvin played all four of her collegiate seasons at NC State. She led the Wolfpack to NCAA Tournament appearances in all four years and would get her team to the Women’s Final Four in her senior season in 1998. She concluded her career fourth on the school’s all-time points list.
In the WNBA, she was drafted by the Cleveland Rockers in 1999 and spent her first five seasons by Lake Erie. She also played for the Washington Mystics and Chicago Sky as well as overseas where she won five championships. Melvin averaged nearly 10 points per game as well as over five rebounds, including 13 points per game in 2003 in Cleveland.
There will certainly be lots of Wolfpack red at that induction ceremony! Congratulations to Chasity Melvin!
