On Wednesday evening at 10 p.m., BET will air a documentary entitled “Smoke: Marijuana + Black America” that takes a deep look into how marijuana has had a major effect on the Black community and on America as a whole.
Narrated by and executive produced by Nas, It examines how much of a cultural symbol it has become to how states that have legalized its use have reaped major economic benefits.
There will be plenty of notable names that agreed to participate in the BET documentary – including Cheyenne Parker of the Chicago Sky.
Other noteworthy Black luminaries will also make appearances – including Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, Senator Cory Booker (New Jersey), Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, former NBA player Al Harrington, former NFL star Ricky Williams, B-Real of Cypress Hill and musician Ty Dolla $ign.
The special mentions how Parker, as well as Williams, risked their careers via their use. Another element it will mention is how the gradual legalization of marijuana has turned it into an entire industry – one where white dispensary owners have benefitted while Black individuals are still finding themselves incarcerated over their use.
