While the Los Angeles Sparks’ Chiney Ogwumike may have become one of the most recognizable personalities in all of sports through her success in the United States with the WNBA, she has certainly not forgotten her roots.

As part of a charity initiative (according to The Guardian), she visited Avi-Cenna International School and Queens College – both in Lagos – Nigeria’s largest city.

At Queens College, she unveiled a redone basketball court and gave hoops kits to kids. She mentioned that success in basketball goes beyond skills when talking to those in attendance. Another focal point of Ogwumike’s speech – maintaining focus from distractions.

She also met up with kids at Teslim Balogun Stadium’s indoor hall – also in Lagos.
