WNBA fans everywhere are already looking forward to descending on Seattle for this year’s All-Star Game. But there is a chance that in a few years, the home court for the Seattle Storm may not look as it does today.
The City of Seattle recently issued a Request For Proposal intended on a renovation and a “reimagining” of The Key. The deadline for proposals to be submitted to the city is April 12.
At least two Los Angeles-based organizations say they intend to submit proposals for a possible new and improved Key Arena.
In addition, Bay Area-based hedge fund manager Chris Hansen and his investment group also intends to submit a proposal for a fully privately-financed arena in Seattle’s SoDo district. The city’s mayor Ed Murray says they will take a look at the plans for Key Arena’s renovation before reviewing Hansen’s proposal.
The goal of all this arena talk engulfing the Emerald City is to put it in better position for NBA and NHL teams, but one has to believe the Storm as well are keeping a close eye on these developments.
