In addition to being the official DJ for the Dallas Wings, DJ Poizon Ivy (Ivy Awino) can add a weekend gig at a local radio station to her Metroplex resume.
She will now be heard in the Dallas-Fort Worth area spinning tracks on KKDA-FM 104.5—K104, a hip-hop station.
After being an intern at the station in 2007, she became well known in Milwaukee and throughout its DJ scene. She attempted to land a gig as the DJ for the Bucks, and it did not pan out. What did was her meeting Skylar Diggins, and she was in with the Wings.
DJ Poizon Ivy also is the official DJ for the Dallas Mavericks.
Getting that inspiration to break through into DJ’ing and radio—two male-dominant professions, she says came from words once spoken to her by her mother.
When I was young, my mom would tell me, ‘you can’t be a jack of all trades and master at none.’ I would tell her I was going to be a master jack of all trades.
This summer, she also DJ’d Diggins’ “Welcome to Dallas” sneaker and jerseys party, which was hosted by Roc Nation Sports and Villa Dallas.
