In a matchup of 2-4 Eastern Conference teams, it would be Pokey Chatman’s Chicago Sky, now winners of their last two games who prevailed and upped their record to 3-4. The Sky defeated the Washington Mystics at the Verizon Center by a final score of 86-78.
The record for Mike Thibault’s Mystics team now falls to 2-5.
Chicago seems to be far away from the cold spell at the beginning of the season when the Sky had a hard time hitting three-pointers. Chicago made six threes out of 14 attempts.
Elena Delle Donne led the Sky with 18 points and also added nine rebounds in 34 minutes of playing time. Cappie Pondexter pitched in another 16. Courtney Vandersloot also chimed in with 10 points plus eight assists—four of which came in the first quarter.
For Washington, Stefanie Dolson finished with 14 points and Ivory Latta added 11. Emma Messeman added another 10. One highlight of the game for the Mystics was Kia Vaughn reaching the 1,000 rebound plateau.
This week, the Mystics and Sky will become well acquainted as on Friday, these same two teams will meet again—this time at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont.
