We are on the precipice of another WNBA season – the 29th season in the history of the W.
This definitely means plenty of us will be hitting the roads this season to be en route to WNBA arenas this season – including in July when the entirety of the women’s basketball family will descend upon Indianapolis for All-Star weekend.
This also means that whether one has a Jones for women’s hoops content or is simply trying to stay entertained during a long trip, one will certainly need plenty of podcast goodness for those ears.
Without further ado, here are eight women’s sports podcasts we recommend this season.
In Case You Missed It with Khristina Williams
We begin with a couple of podcasts under the iHeartMedia umbrella – a couple of them featuring some of our all-time favorites among us here at Beyond The W.
The list of names that has been guests on In Case You Missed It… has read like a who’s who of women’s sports luminaries.
In her latest episode, she sat down with Callie Fin at the Las Vegas Review-Journal to preview the upcoming season for the Aces as well as chat about the rollout of the new Nike A’ja Wilson A’Ones. She also talked with the Toronto Tempo’s Teresa Resch about next season when WNBA basketball will make its way full time into Canada.
Levels To This with Sheryl Swoopes and Terrika Foster-Brasby
The other pod that is through iHeartMedia podcasts is also hosted by a pair of Black women and blends together sports with pop culture.
“Levels to This” is co-hosted by Sheryl Swoopes and Terrika Foster-Brasby. In their latest episode, they delve a bit into our troubled political waters but chat with one of the bright spots of said political landscape in Jasmine Crockett, a Democratic representative from Texas in the Dallas area.
As we have noted in the past, iHeartMedia certainly deserves credit for recognizing the growing market that is women’s sports by investing major money into women’s sports content. And as the aforementioned podcasts denote, they are prioritizing Black women specifically when it comes to WNBA programs.
No Cap Space
Also among the premier women’s basketball podcasts and/or podcast networks out there is the No Cap Space family of podcasts.
It has really diversified its programming over these last several months and has grown to include a wide range of women’s basketball centric content. This happens to include Welcome To Women’s Basketball as well as Ball Up Top.
One of the hosts at the No Cap Space slate of podcasts is Tyler DeLuca – an Oklahoma alum who has become one of the shining stars of this women’s hoops creator space. Our guess is he is still over the moon about his Sooners somehow landing Aaliyah Chavez despite LSU and Texas being among her suitors.
Best Damn W Show
Here is a podcast that is slowly, but surely becoming one of our favorites and that is The Best Damn W Show.
LoloByke aka LoliviaPope happens to be among one of our favorite content creators and she has definitely carved out a niche for herself as one of the hardest working women working the stage among WNBA content creators.
Nick Andre and Jay Holloway – two other gifted WNBA content creators – join Lolivia every episode. Their latest podcast that dropped delved into a variety of topics – including the WNBA’s preseason, Hannah Hidalgo, the release of the A’Ones and Dawn Staley’s new statue in Columbia.
The Committee
Of course, when talking about WNBA and women’s basketball podcasts, that conversation must always include The Committee.
This is one that has been one of the more controversial programs in the WNBA creator space, but if one’s preference is women’s hoops banter that is raw, real and is unafraid to tackle issues that other programs may not touch, the Committee could be your pick to click.
As of this writing they are doing a countdown to the season. One of its latest videos happens to include Veronica Burton of the Golden State Valkyries. Another of their countdown spots featured none other than Terrika Foster-Brasby herself.
Pull Up with Myles Ehrlich and Owen Pence
What do you get when you pair up two of the most respected WNBA journalists in the business on one podcast? The short answer is magic.
The long answer is the Pull Up With Myles (Ehrlich) & Owen (Pence) pod. Pence has penned various stories for a number of outlets – including SB Nation and Slam Magazine. Ehrlich is a beat reporter with Winsidr for the New York Liberty – the defending WNBA champion New York Liberty.
In one of their most recent episodes, the duo chatted it up with JJ Quinerly who concluded a stellar career at West Virginia which resulted in her being drafted by the Dallas Wings.
It also has a sister pod called Step Back With Myles & Owen which is produced by Kevin “K Dot” Lewis.
The 9450
We mentioned how LoLo is one of the primary personalities on The Best Damn W Show. She also pulls double duty with The 9450 Network.
Their most recent video on its YouTube channel documented them being on site in New York City at the WNBA Draft at The Shed.
Kevin “KDot” Lewis is also part of the channel and one of the key elements of it is how it analyzes the game from more of an Xs and Os standpoint. A few days ago, it reached the milestone of 500 subscribers on its YouTube channel.
The Winsidr Show/Sideline Sisters
Speaking of Winsidr…
Another WNBA podcast that is certainly top-notch is The Winsidr Show. It is hosted by Aryeh Schwartz and Rachel Galligan and the two also do a bit of work with Bleacher Report as well.
Their latest episode was dropped a few days ago and put a focus on the preseason games that had been taking place.
In addition to the main Winsidr podcast, there is a second Winsidr podcast that is out there called Sideline Sisters. The two hosts of that pod are Jasmine Harper and Candace “Ace” Pedraza and its most recent episode recapped last month’s WNBA Draft.
