As NBA All-Star Weekend 2016 is quickly approaching, details of the weekend’s festivities (which are in Toronto this year) are starting to surface and be announced by the league. One of the most popular attractions is the All-Star Celebrity Game, and two the WNBA’s best and brightest stars, Elena Delle Donne and Natalie Achonwa, are set to face off in the battle of the best country, USA vs. Canada.
Elena, our 2015 WNBA MVP and arguably the best player in the entire game, will join Team USA, coached by powerhouse comedian and actor Kevin Hart. Other members of Team USA are 5X All-Star Chauncey Billups and NBA legend Muggsy Bogues. The rest of the roster also includes actors Anthony Anderson, Nick Cannon, and (the handsome) Michael B. Jordan.
Natalie, who put on a stellar performance during the Indiana Fever’s run through the WNBA Finals, will be a Team Canada representative. Playing alongside her will be 7X All Star Tracey McGrady and NBA TV Analyst and legend Rick Fox, a well as actor/singer Kris Wu, and Drew and Jonathan Scott, who we all know was the “Property Brothers”. The head coach for Team Canada is none other than Drake, Grammy award-winning rapper, Toronto Raptors Global Ambassador, and probably the proudest Canadian I’ve ever seen.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m thrilled to see Elena and Natalie face off AGAIN, even though this competition is a lot friendlier. Congrats to both ladies!
ESPN will televise the game live on Friday, February 12th, 2016, beginning at 7 p.m from the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, ON. ET. You can also catch the game by downloading the WatchESPN app.
