In a Wednesday news conference, the Chicago Sky announced that Elena Delle Donne is returning to the United States after a recurrence of Lyme disease, meaning she will not be playing in China.
Delle Donne was scheduled to play for the Shanxi Flames of the Chinese Basketball Association before this news came out. She has battled Lyme disease since 2008. It has caused her to miss time in college as well as in the WNBA.
At the short news conference, Delle Donne mentioned how difficult it can be to manage the ailment, which remains uncurable as of today.
I’m really struggling with my health right now. For my health the best thing for me is to return to the U.S.
She has also been an ambassador for Lyme disease research.
Prayers up for @De11eDonne. https://t.co/SfyYEmPBTO
