Like many of us, superstar Elena Delle Donne watched Lonzo Ball make his Laker debut last night during NBA’s annual Summer League Games in Las Vegas. Of course, Lonzo played in the ZO2’s, his own signature sneaker being sold under his family-owned Big Baller Brand (BBB).
The shoes have received both praise and criticism since its launch was announced in May. Last night, Elena, who is also signed by Nike, chimed in and shared how she feels about the shoes:
How great would it be if @ZO2_ blew out his shoe in his first summer league game? should have gone with @Nike

Did I just see a shoe malfunction?! I think sooooo!

As one can imagine, a few folks were not too thrilled with Elena’s comments and thought that she was being a hater, trying to be relevant, or even insinuating that she wanted Ball to suffer an injury.
I know I know everyone. Stay in my lane, I’m a woman. #sorrynotsorry

??people. We are talking about a torn shoe! on the upside: I’m glad so many people are talking about the @WNBA ?

Let’s get it straight people! I’m not talking about him getting hurt! Give me a break! I’m talking about his BBB shoe tearing.

Elena’s comments may be the farthest thing on Lonzo’s mind right now. The Lakers lost to the L.A. Clippers 96-93 in OT, with Lonzo missing 10 of his 11 3-point attempts and he shot 2-of-15 overall. While he focuses on bettering his game, I’m sure his outspoken father, LaVar Ball, will respond.
