A few weeks after Joe Biden departed from his role as Vice President, he sent a letter to Elena Delle Donne after her recent move from the Chicago Sky to the Washington Mystics.
On social media recently, one of Delaware’s favorite daughters shared said letter from one of Delaware’s favorite sons.
Thanks for the kind note @JoeBiden! We would love to have you come to a @washmystics game! Home opener is 5/14! pic.twitter.com/mZnqCDOEoh

Yep…the trip down the Acela from Delaware to Union Station is notably shorter than the distance between The First State and the Windy City. The Mystics home opener is May 14 at the Verizon Center vs. the San Antonio Stars.
And this is not the first time Biden has acknowledged Delle Donne, of course. Given both hail from Delaware, he has followed her career closely. He was in the stands when Delaware defeated North Carolina in 2013’s NCAA tournament, which advanced the Blue Hens to that year’s Sweet 16.
Biden also wished her luck last year when she competed in her first Olympics as part of the United States National Women’s Basketball Team. Needless to say, it was a successful Games for her and Team USA as they claimed their sixth consecutive gold medal.
