Becoming a WNBA champion with the Los Angeles Sparks was not the only accolades she received.
On Nov. 15, Paterson named that day Essence Carson Day as she received the key to her hometown.
Carson’s playing career in the WNBA has taken her a short drive or train ride across the Hudson River to Madison Square Garden, as well as all the way to the other side of the country in Southern California. At a gathering at Paterson Eastside High School’s gymnasium, she let the crowd in attendance know she is Paterson through and through.
I’m always proud to say I’m from Paterson.
The ceremonies also included members of the Essence Carson Elite basketball team who referred to Carson as their “she-ro.” It concluded with her being provided with the key to the city by New Jersey State Assemblyman Benjie Wimberly (D-Paterson) from the state’s 35th District that includes Bergen and Passaic Counties.
