Spurs assistant head coach and WNBA champion Becky Hammon is wasting NO time making the most of an amazing opportunity, and she’s leading a group of talented young men to do the same.
The championship game of the NBA Summer League Games took place in Las Vegas, and Coach Hammon coached the young men to a 93-90 win over the Phoenix Suns. In a post-game interview with ESPN, Coach Hammon said:
“It was a grind. They’ve been together for 17 days. They really started to gel the last two or three games. They listened, and they played really hard for me. I just really appreciate their attentiveness and alertness. They were tired, but they fought through.”
More importantly, she has the respect of the young men who are under her stewardship. Jonathon Simmons, who also won Summer League MVP, told NBA TV:
“It’s amazing. It was a humbling experience for all of us. I really love her, and I’ve only known her a couple of days. She’s a real cool coach. She’s a player coach. That’s something we all like.”
This is definitely one of many wins and accomplishments that we will see from Coach Hammon and the rest of these talented young men. Congrats to the Spurs!!!! (I can’t wait ’til November!!)
