Women’s basketball has continued to make leaps and bounds over the years even in the face of intense and even sexist criticism. But one of the sport’s glaring issues is how can it manage to muster a consistent fanbase of women who are so only exposed to the men’s game.
It appears as though that Kyrie Irving wants to do his part in changing that. Recently, the Cleveland Cavaliers star flew out to Seattle to watch the Storm host the Mercury at Key Arena.
He also is good friends with Diana Taurasi, who recently set the all-time league scoring record, and Sue Bird—who herself is a fan of the Kyrie 2 PE’s.
The Mercury defeated the Storm by a final of 85-82, but Irving made headlines of his own by chronicling his journey to the Emerald City—and that he awaits the day his daughter grows up to look up to some of women’s basketball’s best and brightest.
I cannot wait for my daughter to grow up and idolize some of the girls that are playing today and some of the past ones that have already played. She’s gonna love it.
–Kyrie Irving
The game Irving was at also was made notable by Brittney Griner’s dunk.

Now that Irving has graced his presence within the W, WNBA arenas from Connecticut to Seattle are awaiting patiently a visit from another notable Cav.
