Kara Lawson on what it takes to be an elite athlete

The journey to becoming an athlete at the biggest stage is typically a very tough and arduous one—just ask any athlete that has performed at their respective sport’s highest stage.

If one were to ask Kara Lawson—one attribute stands out above all others.

In a video for Stack.com seen below, Lawson mentions that the ability to sacrifice certain things others are not willing to is what is the difference between those that simply play sports to play and those that rise to greatness.

She cited a story that her middle school soccer coach told her of how elite athletes become saw because they want to be so—and that they are willing to make those necessary sacrifices.

He said it might be boys, it might be parties, it might be prom, it might be school, it might be whatever it is. But, they’re willing to sacrifice that to get there—and the people below aren’t willing to do that.

This should serve as a lesson to young athletes looking to make it to the top level as Lawson has. She was willing to give up certain things because she did not just want to be another athlete.
She wanted to be who Kara Lawson is today.
