Smith and Thompson were both named as finalists for this year’s Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2018. Both are first-time finalists. In addition to Smith and Thompson, another women’s basketball luminary was also among the list of finalists – Baylor women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey.
The first-time finalists group also includes Ray Allen, Jason Kidd, Grant Hill, and Steve Nash. Chris Webber, Maurice Cheeks, Rudy Tomjanovich and Charles “Lefty” Driesell are also those up for consideration.
Congratulations are also in order for Doris Burke, who was named the 2018 Curt Gowdy Award recipient.
