One of the greatest players in Seattle Storm and Australian basketball history – Lauren Jackson – was to be inducted this year into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame with two WNBA all-time greats in Swin Cash and Tamika Catchings. That induction was, of course, delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It had to still be gratifying for Jackson that she still managed to receive her flowers from yet another entity that honors the game’s all-time greats.
Jackson was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame – a year after she was inducted into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame. She was honored as a Top 20@20 honoree in 2016 and her No. 15 has been retired by the Storm. Jackson has won four WNBL MVPs, four WNBL Grand Final MVPs, three WNBA MVPs and two WNBA championships. She also made a combined 12 All-Star appearances between the WNBA (seven) and the WNBL (five).
She also won silver medals with the Australian Opals at the Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Olympics in addition to a bronze at the London 2012 Olympics. She has since gone on to be the head of Basketball Australia’s Women in Basketball.
Congratulations to Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medallist @laurenej15 on being inducted into the @sportaushof 2020 class.
Basketball made its @thecgf debut at the 2006 Games & the @basketballaus superstar powered the Opals to a dominant gold medal victory.#sahof2020 pic.twitter.com/QV9lkquSnR
