During the offseason, many WNBA players take to the overseas hardwood. While the W may be in an official offseason, there seems to be little bit of that for the players.
Being overseas can come with challenges—including safety risks. A new app is aiming to address this issue.
An app called LiveSafe has joined forces with the WNBA to provide support to players that are overseas. Players can have direct contact with the league as well as its security. The league can also provide information to players if the WNBA has its own security concerns for players.
League President Lisa Borders described the added layer of security as vital, particularly with players in countries such as Turkey and Russia where the climate is especially tense.
LiveSafe already provides safety and security for many venues across the country—including sports arenas. It also recently was tested out by the U.S. Navy in hopes of preventing sexual assault within its ranks.
