Looking around Chicago during the recently completed NBA All-Star weekend, one probably noticed WNBA stars left and right throughout the Windy City.
Whether it was A’ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray at the Celebrity Game, Candace Parker at the Dunk Contest or 15 members of Team USA at the open practice at Wintrust Arena, the WNBA presence in the City of Broad Shoulders was large and noteworthy.
One of the biggest events put on every All-Star weekend is Kenny Smith’s All-Star Bash. It occurred at the Morgan MFG event space on Valentine’s Day – the same day as the Celebrity Game and the special concert put on by the Chicago Sky and RNBHouseParty that featured Keri Hilson, Bow Wow and Day26.
The event, as expected, was star-studded and included some big names putting on for the W – including Liz Cambage, Candace Parker and Tina Thompson. Also on hand were Kenyon Martin, Julius Erving and Greg Oden in addition to JB Smoove, Jadakiss, Ghostface Killah and Ed Lover.
It is also never too early to start prognosticating how the WNBA’s presence at next year’s All-Star festivities in Indianapolis will top Chicago’s. Our guess is Tamika Catchings will get an invite to next year’s All-Star bash…
