The honors and accolades continue to pour in for the Minnesota Lynx’s Maya Moore who continues to grow what is one of the most illustrious careers in women’s basketball history.
Moore was an important piece in leading the Lynx to their fourth championship in seven seasons after Minnesota won the WNBA Finals. Sports Illustrated, yesterday, announced that Moore has been named the 2017 Performer of the Year. She is the first recipient of said award.
As W fans know, she has won at every level she has played basketball in. Whether it has been the high school level, the college level under Geno Auriemma at UConn, the WNBA level with the Lynx, or on the international stage in the Chinese League and the Olympics, all she does is win.
Moore will be included in SI’s upcoming Sportsperson of the Year Issue as well as at the upcoming Sportsperson of the Year Awards which will emanate on December 5th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Also among the honorees are the Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid and the now retired Carlos Beltran, who is coming off winning a World Series – the first in his MLB career – with the Houston Astros.
The Sportsperson of the Year Awards will be broadcast on NBCSN on December 8 at 8 p.m. eastern and on Univision Deportes the following day at the same time.
