This year’s WNBA Finals will once again feature the Minnesota Lynx—winners of three of the last six championships, after the Lynx dispatched the Phoenix Mercury by a final score of 82-67.
Phoenix, in a must-win situation, led 23-18 after one quarter prior to halftime when the Lynx assumed the lead by one at 39-38. But as the Lynx have done so often with their roster including four Olympians, an offensive binge was coming, and it came in the third quarter when Minnesota outscored Phoenix 26-15.
It was another 20-point performance for Maya Moore, who led the team scoringwise. Natasha Howard also provided a lot of help off the bench for the Lynx with 17 points and eight rebounds. Seimone Augustus had 12 and Lindsay Whalen added 11.
For the Mercury, both Diana Taurasi and DeWanna Bonner had 12 points.
Minnesota now awaits the winner of the other WNBA semifinals series between the Los Angeles Sparks and Chicago Sky. The Sky won on Sunday night over the Sparks to keep its series alive. LA still leads 2-1.
