Moore’s 25 keeps undefeated season intact for Lynx

The defending champion Minnesota Lynx remain without a blemish on their 2016 season so far. Behind a 25-point performance from Maya Moore, the Lynx upped their record to 6-0 by defeating the New York Liberty at Madison Square Garden, 79-69.

Moore scored 11 of her 25 points in the first quarter. Minnesota had a 28-11 after the first quarter, but as the game reached its closing moments, the Liberty closed the gap to as little as six.

Late in the fourth quarter, after forcing a Minnesota turnover, Brittany Boyd had a seemingly clear lane to the basket for a layup that would have cut New York’s deficit to four. Instead, it bounced off the rim and resulted in a Seimone Augustus rebound.

The game became reminiscent of what happened when the Lynx outscored the Indiana Fever on Friday 29-6 in the first quarter, yet only won by three (74-71).

The Liberty did get another 23 points and 11 rebounds from Tina Charles as well as 12 points from Shavonte Zellous. All other Liberty players were held to under double-digits for points.

Minnesota will return home this Saturday to play the Dallas Wings. The Liberty will remain at home this Friday as they await the Indiana Fever.
